How do i make the official diagnosis for asperger syndrom?

Question: How do i make the official diagnosis for asperger syndrom?

Im gonna make an appointment with my regular doctor, does he make the official diagnosis to see if I have it or is it someone else. Another thing if I do have AS(which im sure of) does it go on my record or something, so when I apply for a job does anyone have to know?

Your doctor will most likely refer you to a specialist, for example a psychiatrist, who will confirm whether you have AS or not (or whether you have something else). Your diagnosis goes on your medical record, but your medical record is private and you do not have to tell your employer about your diagnosis if you don't want to. Pretty much nobody will know about your diagnosis unless you choose to tell them about it. However, if you require some accommodations at your job or in school due to AS, then you need to tell the employer/ the school about your diagnosis and request the accommodations you need. Employers and schools have legal responsibilities to provide reasonable accommodations to people with disabilities. You need to be able to do the job though, with reasonable accommodations. You do not have to mention your diagnosis during the application or interviewing process for jobs (and in many cases it is better not to, to prevent being discriminated against) and employers are not allowed to ask you whether you have disabilities or health problems. You can enclose your diagnosis after you are hired, or you can choose to not tell them at all.

Try that quiz that may help, Also after your GP he will referee you to a pediatrician this may identify signs that warrant further investigation. This will require a comprehensive team evaluation to either confirm or exclude a diagnosis of AS. This team usually includes a psychologist, neurologist, psychiatrist, speech and language pathologist, occupational therapist and other professionals with expertise in diagnosing children with AS

Its just another label like ADHD You can move forward in life with or without labels don't let it get to you It's not real science its just opinions. people with that may stick out easily because of social skills problems but they certainly can improve their skills. no need to slap a label on it.

If your doctor suspects Aspergers, you will be referred to a neurologists, who will make the official diagnosis. If you work, they wouldn't need to know unless it affects your job in a way that they need to help you in some way. If you go to school (not college) they would need to be told because an IEP will need to be made up to help you in school.

There are specialists in autistic disorders (Asperger's is a form of autism), but my cousin was assessed by a specialist and was told he did not have it. Which is totally ridiculous as he clearly does, I would like him to get further testing but he would rather not have it so he has accepted that answer. Since I found out about it and have learned about it I have been able to have a much better relationship with him and explain to other family members what is going on so they can as well. It has worked much better for all of us. If you have Asperger's it will be clear to most anyone around you for any amount of time that there is something going on, if you are diagnosed you can get the information to your boss and they will be required by law not to count the symptoms against you. Many bosses (and family members, friends, etc.) would just be relieved to know that it is not just disrespect or disregard for them and your coworkers and to be able learn effective ways to communicate with you. All persons with disabilities recognized by the American's with Disabilities Act (of 1990) (Asperger's is one) are protected from having to be revealed when you apply for jobs and must be accommodated for if you get the job. Check out the web site, there are pamphlets of accommodations for each disability.
