Asperger Syndrome a pervasive developmental disorder at the high functioning end of the Autistic Spectrum. Individuals with the syndrome can experience significant difficulties with social interaction, communication and flexible thinking. People with the syndrome can be characterised by their impairments in social situations as well as having stereotyped patterns of behaviour and obsessional interests. Many people with the syndrome have average intelligence or above but lack social and communication skills as well as the ability to empathise and relate to others. It has been suggested that the root of these issues lies with an inability to read emotions in others and to understand their own feelings. However, with the proper support and early intervention, people with AS can lead full and productive lives. Many famous people such as W.B. Yeats, Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton are said to have been affected by AS. In Ireland it is estimated that several thousand people have the syndrome, with about nine times as many men affected as women. Symptoms: 1. Socially and emotionally 'inappropriate' behavior 2. Limited interests or preoccupation with a subject 3. Repetitive behaviors or rituals; 4. Peculiarities in speech and language; 5. Problems with nonverbal communication 6. lack of empathy 7. Clumsy and uncoordinated motor movements 8. Inflexibility or rigid thinking 9. Fear of changes; sameness in daily routines Hope I helped. :)

I have Asperger's and I was very withdrawn, avoided eye contact, acted out and did the socially awkwardest thing imaginable. This tended to disappear when I grew up, and now I'm much better, but will always be slightly awkward and reclusive in nature.
