Asperger's disorder or social anxiety disorder?

Question: Asperger's disorder or social anxiety disorder?

(Posted by: DudeThatsAwesome on 2010-03-12 15:28:48)

I need to write a research paper for my diagnosis psychology course, in which I must include symptoms, associated features, etiology and treatment approaches. I also need to use 20 references, therefore I need a topic that has lots of information available. I narrowed it down to asperger's disorder or social anxiety disorder, but i'm still not sure what topic to choose. Any ideas?

Social anxiety. I've always wondered about that.

Well social anxiety disorder is more general than Asperger's syndrome. I would imagine that it would be easier to find more information on a more specific disorder. If it were me i would pick asperger's just because i have it.

Asperger's is more interesting than social anxiety disorder. 20 references can be found about either topic at most local libraries and certainly online. I suggest using the DSM-IV TR as one of your resources either way. Good luck, I'm so glad I'm done with my General Psych papers.

Although they are both very good topics, I would go for the Social Anxiety Disorder. There are several different types of it, which would help the reader understand all aspects of the disorder. Look at several medical websites, libraries, etc.

I guess it depends on what you want to present. People have a lot of misconceptions of both. This is wikipedia's Asperger's site. I post it not because I think wikipedia is all that reliable, but because of the 104 works cited on the pages. This is wikipedia's Social Anxiety site. Again, I don't consider it very reliable. en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/ Social_Anxiety It has 9 works cited at the bottom. This piece's value is in its description of how psychological problems are perceived. sites.google.com/ site/ allusionsanddreams/ home/ introduction-to-presenting-psychological-problems It is written for writers, but has some good information. Good luck with your paper.

I think I would research social anxiety only because of the fact that it does effect so many people and there is a lot of information available on it at this time.

Asperger's. So many conditions share the same characteristics as AS and it's easy to mis self diagnose. It's also a form of autism and they share the same traits but AS is less extreme and less severe.
