Question: How old were you and your mate when your autistic/aspergers child was conceived?

I have read many reports stating that the age of the parents (primarily the man) may have an influence into the possibility of having a child on the Autism spectrum. We have two boys that are autistic. I was 25 and my husband had just turned 40. Silver: Thank you for your answer. Tears: I think that is so fascinating. You know they say that children with Aspergers are called "little professors " I think there is something to be said about the level of Genius associated with Engineering and the super refined yet hindered brilliance of a person with Aspergers.

I know a family and the husband was 40 too and wife 30. But in facts both can cause problems after 40, primarily the man for autistic, but primarily the woman for others defiency like trisomy.

Both of my parents were right around 30 years old when I was conceived, and I am right on the borderline between Asperger's and PDD-NOS. In my research on myself, I've also read that ones who's grandfathers are engineering types are more likely to be born with Aspergers. In my case that held true-my grandfather was a civil engineer, my uncle is a chemical engineer, my cousin is an electronics engineer, and they all come from my mothers side. = Edit to pavman= lol thats too strange, because guess what I am training to be right now...a mechanical engineer! = ) Is there a pattern emerging here?

One of my sons was diagnosed with a mild form of aspergers, as he has grown older he has managed to function fairly normal but he still has problems with his speach (to fast) he's now 12 and guess what he wants to be? a mechanical engineer, he has a brilliant mind when it comes to design and/ or fabracation, as his father i feel i let him down alot because i don't, my wife and i were both 24 when he was concieved

My mom was 32 and my dad was 51 when they had my baby brother who had autism. I think it could be the fathers defective sperm. I'm not sure though.
