Question: Could my 16 month old have autism spectrum disorder?

My son at 10 months was diagnosed with paroxysmal tonic upgaze (ptu), and has started showing signs of autism. He never said a word or babbled until he was 1 year old, just after his first birthday he said "mama " then a few weeks later he said "dada. " We was very excited that he had finally started talking. Then at 14months he started saying "ye " and "eya " but since using these words, "mama " and "dada " have gone? Ive really try to encourage him to say them, but his reply to everything is "ye ". When excited, he points to the ceiling, never pointed at anything else, just points up when excited. He also flaps his hands, not alot, but he does do it. One thing that he does alot is put his hands over his ears, and pats his head. Only does it at certain times, everytime he crys he does, and when certain songs and themes comes on the tele. He seems to ignore me alot, if he is busy with a toy or watching tv, i could shout his name at the top of my voice 30 times and he would not acknowlege me, and sometimes will look the 1st time. The ptu does sometimes cause speech delays. He has 2 cousins with severe autism. He does make eye contact, loves cuddles, and blows kisses when he hears love you, as we do this when we say love you. He doesnt line things up, he does stack things, but not for really long periods of time. Should i be concerned? Please, anybody with any info would be greatly appreciated. |
