Are there any proven (or currently studied) factors that contribute to a predisposition to or diagnosis of autism

Not sure, since I would have to look through the science journals for that. But, I can assure you there is likely nothing well-known or publicized that I don't mention here, unless I feel it's a joke, and then I won't mention it on purpose. The things some doctors are saying are: pleomorphic pathogens of Lyme, Bartonella, and mycoplasma and a build up of toxins first acquired in the womb. There are some genetic issues that are quite minor that may make one more likely to store toxins. The viruses are being found to be on the DNA chromosomes that come from the sperm and egg, or transferred by other means, so they are also blamed (usually HHV6, measles, Rubella, Borna, CMV, Varicella, epstein barr, etc.). Mold gets the blame because it clogs the immune system, as well as wireless gadgetry. If the mother is exposed, it is said to make the baby more vulnerable. Well, that's about it. What is known is that they have immune dysfunction which pretty much can be caused by gobs of different things, so it's a result of pathogens and toxins. So, what you may want to really persue, since there is no real predisposition other than being a carrier of pathogens and toxins in my opinion, is the fact that they have immune dysfunction. So, google CD 57 cells, t-cells, TNF, Interluekin 2,4,8,12, natural killer cells, cholesterol, blood-flow, blood viscosity, etc. Those are the problems. They are caused by pathogens and toxins and are fixed by treating pathogens and toxins, but it isn't easy and takes a long time. My childern no longer have autism.

So many things... mitochondrial dysfunction chronic infections requiring a lot of antibiotics (leads to leaky gut) having a lot of mental illness in the family (depression, alcoholism, etc) having a lot of autoimmune disorders in the family (rheumetoid arthritis, etc...) having the genetic inability to rid the body of toxins (there is a blood test for this mutation much more For more information, see Jenny McCarthy's new book: Healing and Preventing Autism.
