Could be either.....depends more on the individual than the condition.....and also there are different kinds of intelligence.....

Intelligence is an extremely relative term. Aspergers and high functioning autism are often interchangeable. The effects are many and varied and equally has a different impact on the person and those around. Being able to play all of Bach's works from memory may be a sign of a unique intelligence but not much help if the same person cant do his shoelaces or read the facial expressions of the ones that love him. A lot of people with Asperger's/ Autism and simply don't know. They may be aware of being 'different' and associates might see him as a little 'odd' or 'impersonal' sometimes.....That is the nature and range of the condition. Mild cases are inconvenient. Bad cases are seriously bad.

I myself am an Aspie, and I would like to break the cycle of the obsession of which autistic has the most severe case of 'savant syndrome'. I have noticed that with the growing epidemic diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome, there seems to be little attention paid to toward the more severe end of the spectrum, which is where the savant syndrome really can happen. I'm not saying that those with Asperger's or High Functioning Autism aren't intelligent, but those with other cases of autism such as; Fragile X, Rett's Syndrome, Kanner's Syndrome, etc. may not have the best daily functioning skills, but they are also blessed with the most exquisite gifts. Some can recite numbers beyond our imaginations, draw amazing pictures, create beautiful sculptures. Just try to think outside of the box.

Hi there...I have asperger syndrome - to be honest, it depends on the individual - I just have a normal IQ; some folks with AS may have a high IQ, but not all of them have. I am more creative type of person, more then an intellectual sort of person.
