Learning disabilities hereditary?

Question: Learning disabilities hereditary?

(Posted by: streetlightdancer on 2009-12-19 12:47:24)

I've read online in the past couple minutes that learning disabilities are hereditary. I've been told that my birthfather has a severe learning disability...and looking at his 'about me' section on myspace, it definitely shows. However, I certainly do not have a learning disability of any kind (unless mild ADD counts, though I read they were completely different). So now I'm wondering about my future children...does any of this information indicate the chances of them having a learning disability? Would it be as severe as my birthdad's if they did? If this is too little information to just know off the bat, how would I be able to find out for sure (besides having some kids and seeing for myself)?

Seriously. Would it still stop you if you found it it was hereditary? Probably not though. :/ Genetics isn't that simple.

You could speak with a geneologist. They may be able to test you for specific genes???

You said that your grandfather had it, not you mom or dad therefore move on with your life. The chances of your child getting is slim to none. Stop worrying because there is not one thing in this whole world that was ever solved by worrying.

If it were specified it could be genetic. An example is my grandmother and I shared the same social traits and had the same learning problems in school...Not only that but my father had issues learning things. So..if you are that curious I suggest you keep searching ;)
