Is there any type of assistance for a family with a special needs person in it? Car crash left parapalegic?
This family is a very loving family who has done everything they can to care for their daughter. The dad is 62 years old and will work for the rest of his life and the mom takes care of her parapalegic daughter full time. They just moved to a smaller 1 story home so that they can always be with their daughter who was unable to be with them upstairs. The new home is not equiped to allow for the wheelchair and other needs and from what I have heard it will cost about $5K to convert the home. bathroom, ramps in and out of home Does anyone know of any government or non profit agencies that can help them? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

What is the name of the mental illness in which one is basically special needs except for in math?
I knew a little boy with this issue, but I completely forgot the name of his mentally illness. He refuses to do a lot of stuff except for counting things. He was extremely good at that, though.

Helping special needs children with grief....?
A 25 year old friend of mine has two young children, one is autistic. The children's father recently died horrifically, I was wondering if there are there any services agencies in Perth, Western Australia that can not only help their mother tell the children but also help them all cope mentally and emotionally?

Special needs child needing a service animal... ANY IDEAS?
Does anyone know where I can try to get help with funding for a service animal for my son? He is 8 years old and has Autism and Epilepsy as his main diagnosis. The doctors all seem to think that this will help him the most as we are quickly running out of options. The agencies that train the animals and that can help with some funding all have extreme waiting lists........we can't wait that long, this is something we need to try and get done soon. The agencies that we are looking at of getting the dog through are pertinent agencies and trying to help us in all they can but they are of a smaller scale so that makes it hard for them too. So I guess to make my question clear is do you all know of agencies such as Epilepsy Foundation and Autism Foundation that helps do grants to ppl with special needs to get items they need in order to live a more independent, productive life?

Special needs catheter?
I have a 12 year old son with special needs and we have just started to help him with self catheterisation. At the hospital he managed it fine, but since we have got him home, everytime we try to do it he tenses his muscles and we can't get past the bladder wall, we have tried getting him to cough and given him a warm bath but nothing seems to help, has anyone out there got any tips they could pass on, thanksThanks for the reply, but I don't think I was specific enough, my son has severe learning difficulties and is unable to do it himself and also has no speech so we are unable to ask him how he feels about it . The department is closed until Tuesday next week and we don't want to stop trying incase he thinks that if it tenses up that means we will stop. I think it will be a long weekend Also he cannont have an indwelling one because he has Chronic Renal Failure and cannot risk getting an infection.
