Question: How do you get a special needs girl to understand what menstruating is?

Depends on how advanced she is. If she has downs syndrome but normally understands thing tell her that it means that she is growing up and that all women have this happen. The main problem is explaining to them why they have to wear pads and such. Because you don't want them pulling them off or anything. We had one girl who even understood that she had cramps, but another who was severely disabled didn't understand and would pull off her pads and make messes. It really depends of how disabled she is. You could also try getting her some form of birth control or an oblation to stop it from happening as much or at all. Let me know if you need more help.
